Sunac · Mountain and Lake of Yunlong

This landscape project is an outdoor public activity space of a culture gallery, so that nearby residents and tourists can have an outdoor activity place to go. The project is located in Xuzhou which is the birthplace of the culture of Han Dynasty and with abundant natural and cultural resources, close to the scenic Mountain and Lake of Yunlong. Considering that, the designers fully absorb the unique local cultural characteristics and apply them into the landscape design, which is to echo the local context and respect the feelings of local people at the same time, since they long for an outdoor space like this. We work for this purpose as following.

Firstly, it provides conditions for design thanks to the spatial pattern of the site surrounded by mountains and with natural height difference, so we make best use of this advantage to build the landscape, such as the natural height difference to a drop, and mountains nearby as a natural barrier to block traffic noise.

The soft arc along the road is outlined by the smooth moving lines, which complement the square lines of the building, just like the contrast between the rough Mountain Yunlong and soft Lake Yunlong.

Notably, the interesting design is that the circular pool in the round lawn square and the white moon-shaped device represent the sun and the moon, respectively. When you look down from the air, it seems as if the world is upside down. The open, minimalist design, at the same time, provides people with a broader and unimpeded activity zone.

Secondly, the simplicity and grandeur of exterior walls and roofs are outlined by blending Han Dynasty-style garden and modern design approach, performing the charm of garden landscape and creating a “yard within garden”. Besides, the local, natural stones which is textured and of natural rough are used to embellish the scenery.

Finally, the surrounding environment can better set off the cultural atmosphere of the indoor space, making the whole place more charming and profound. And further the outdoor and indoor are harmonious and complement each other.
