About The Entry

Vertical Playground

Chengdu CFC is located at the most promising district in Chengdu, with Park at the north. The functions of the project are traditional, including retail, hotel, offices and service apartments. To tackle the challenging demands of customer needs, the retail is the game changer to choose the new design approach to offer the ‘warm CBD’ feel, the coming trends of CBD could be.

Vertical playground: The retail has 11 levels. L1 and L2 form the precinct sense of retail to allow the boundaryless pedestrian flow. From L3 to L5 there are the loop retail layouts to house the trendy trade mix. To offer varieties of the retail experiences, L6 to L8 retail spaces were crafted with different spatial senses, the village elements are introduced here to bring chill and trendy trade mix to attract young people. For L9 and 10, rather than bringing the foot flow from the ground, instead exploring the new way to facilitate the functions from above.

The vertical mall is challenging, while with smart and innovative design approach, it could be transited to the vertical playground to accommodate the fun spaces for all age groups.

Bringing in the park and the energetic central plaza with stories: The retail was arranged with the central plaza in the middle, to enhance this feature, and to bring in the nature from the park, this central plaza is accessible freely by pedestrian flow and around by ‘warm’ treatments of the facade design. Picture windows break down the massing, and create interesting dialogues to see and being seen. The central plaza becomes the energetic space with stories. And with the ‘warm’ and sense of welcome central plaza, this retail space could be unique to offer seamless in and out interactive retail activities.

When the project setting seems traditional, the game changer is much needed to lead the trends. The design must be the key to explore the new dimension and new images to offer extraordinary experiences in the city.
