Snow Beer Factory Rebirth and Redevelopment

Built in the 1990s, Bao’an No. 2 Kingway Brewery was a symbolic presence in the district. It was the only locally grown beer brand for Shenzhen, and has contributed a great deal to the development of Jianggangshan industrial zone in Bao’an. Due to its significance, the redevelopment needs to preserve the memories of beer culture, and to revitalize the industrial remains with contemporary urban lifestyle.
Aedas has won an international competition in 2021 to transform the industrial town into an 873,201 sq. m beer-themed city block that incorporates high-rise office and residential towers, research and development centers, factories and breweries, as well as an experiential retail village.
In response to the complexity of the site, Aedas proposed a comprehensive masterplan that positioned dtowers towards the perimeter to condense the urban interface, with an inviting pedestrian block at the heart of the site.

The urban block draws reference from classic beer gardens from all over the world, generating a welcoming hub for food & beverages with a combination of green streets, plazas, courtyards and terraces, creating an urban garden amid the dense urban context. From day to night, the development will remain a catalyst for diverse activities and events for all to enjoy and celebrate.

Aedas designed the towers’ rounded silhouettes to compliment the previous fermenting silos, to create modern skyline echoed with urban memories. Aedas also proposed to revitalize 8 of the original silos, and re-purpose them into a museum dedicated to beer culture, as a destination for all craft beer fans.

As the new home for Snow Beer Company, the headquarter tower’s cylinder form is a simple and elegant reminder of the industrial past. On the 31F, a sky lobby offers panoramic view to the Shenzhen skyline. It also connects all the Snow office floors vertically, creating open dialogue and collaborations.
