Jing Yun Men

The Forbidden City was the palatial heart of China. It is an imperial palace complex of the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368–1912) in Beijing, China.The Palace Museum in the Forbidden City is one of the world's largest cultural museums, hosting 14 million visitors per year.

“China should continue to upgrade the country‘s toilets as part of its ‘toilet revolution’ aimed at developing domestic tourism and improving people's life quality”, Chinese President Xi Jinping said in Beijing in 2017.

Renovation of Jing Yun Men in the Forbidden City is one of those projects. The current public toilets can not provide better user experience and enough essential facilities since last renovation which is more than 20 years.

JOMOO take the responsibility to renew its facilities and interior design. It has solved the problems after renovating by designer’s effort, such as increase the quantity of the toilet cubicle and add accessible toilets, improve the privacy of toilets, solve the water pressure issue, strengthen the ventilation system and light, upgrade the sanitary and add safety grab bar, etc.The new toilet combined Chinese ancient culture with modern science and technology.

The merging of the past and present. The symbols of the Forbidden City can be seen in our space. Extract the unique elements of the Forbidden City, such as the red and green on the wall and ceiling, customized floor tile with brass auspicious clouds, brass rivet on the cubicle door, etc. And use advanced materials, facilities/equipment and construction techniques to create a brand new toilet space.It is an ancient renovation project, there are many particularities and limitations. The original structure cannot be demolished or adjusted so that the design needs to be adjusted in progress. It has caused great difficulties to design and construction.
