The Billabong

The Billabong, is a story telling place that holds stories of our ancestors, the land and the natural phenomenon that mark our past, present and future. It's form unfolds in space like a rolling rhythmic curtain, a translucent luminous form that sits in the center of a large exhibition space. In it’s a resting phase it is a gem of glistening blue light, a watery presence that radiates out into the space.

The glittering blue projections bring the Billabong to life poetically creating an ornament-rich object with dream-like animations, reflections and movements. The glistening refracted light lures you into it’s centre where the reflected floor and ceiling rises and falls 12 meters above and below you.

The scale of the experience transports you into another time and another place. It is all around you, inside and out. The projected imagery pierces the curtain wall, visible out the outside and on the inside. You are standing in the centre of the story.

The accompanying music carries the mesmerizing narration of voices. Stories are told through Haiku in a Haiku style poetry. The synchronized sound plays like a sympathy of intensities that is lifted by the images played out on the 360 degree wall surfaces that surrounds you.

This virtual experience conveys the ancient stories of creation, of land and of environmental phenomena. You visit a place and a time that only your imagination makes accessible.
