1 Please give us a brief bio of yourself and your design background.
I'm Evan Liu, founder of UGD Company. The purpose of this company is to create suitable space for more people and let more people get quality space design services.
2 What made you become/why did you choose to become a designer/artist?
I prefer to combine aesthetics with life to create a nice living space, and I hope to become a space designer with independent thinking ability.
3 Tell us more about your business/company, job profile, and what you do.
Our company focuses on the space design of commercial space, hotel, bar,villa ,old house transformation and large flat floor.
4 What does “design” mean to you?
For me, design is not only a visual art but also an art of life. It can improve people's quality of life through space design.
5 What’s your favorite kind of design and why?
I like minimalist style and mixture style, because it can create a space with visual impact effect.
6 To you, what makes a “good” design?
The design which can make people feel comfortable, relaxed and happy, and has unique space artistic creativity and rich connotation of space design.
7 Describe your design style and its main characteristics.
I like minimalist and mixture styles, whose main features are simplicity and negative space.
8 Tell us about your design process.
Communicate with the owner _ idea _ effect presentation.
9 Do you think your country and its cultural heritage has an impact on your design process?
Implant local culture into the space design, so that the space has its unique design sense.
10 Congratulations! As the winner of the 2022 MUSE Design Awards, what does it mean to you and your company and team to receive this award distinction?
This means that our design has been recognized by professional organization .The award stimulates the creative passion of our team.
11 Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2022 MUSE Design Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?
This project presents my understanding of nature and living space, which can better reflect the wonderful visual effects generated by the combination of nature and space and the collision of light and shadow.
12 What was the biggest challenge with this project?
The biggest challenge of the project was the transformation of space.
13 How has winning an Award developed your practice/career?
I can be more motivated in my future career.
14 What are your top three (3) favorite things about our industry?
Innovative, interpersonal communication, challenging.
15 What makes your country specifically, unique in the design industry?
What is unique about China in the design industry is that there are more opportunities and multiple sources of culture. We have more projects to participate in innovative design.
16 Where do you see the evolution of design industry going over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5 to 10 years, the development trend of the design industry, people's individual needs for space design will become more and more important?and more environmentally friendly. The environment and nature become more important for people's living space.
17 If you were a student entering this industry or an aspiring MUSE Design Awards submitter, what advice would you give them?
The first requirement is to love this industry, understand and feel more excellent works, and learn more to improve skills.
18 What resources would you recommend to someone who wants to improve their skills in the design industry?
I would recommend some high-quality professional communication platforms and some professional design salons.
19 Tell us something you have never told anyone else.
Being in the design industry is a very hard job.
20 Who has inspired you in your life and why?
Mr. Tadao Ando's works inspire my design.
21 What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?
Only when there is sunshine in the heart, can we make heart-warming space design.
22 Do you have anything else you would like to add to the interview?
Of course, experience is a great asset, but it can also limit your creativity, so breaking through the creative ceiling is to overcome your past experience.
