1 Please give us a brief bio of yourself and your design background.

I’m a creative director at Aida Pioneer branding agency from Sn Francisco. I’m from creative and strategic side. I got over 20 years’ experience in branding and communications. Design is my passion and inspiration.

2 What made you become/why did you choose to become a designer/artist?

I believe that design is something that changes people’s lives, society and the world we live in. It’s a powerful instrument that unites, inspires and motivates. If it’s good it changes you and makes you behave in a certain way. And I really like this feeling of controlling this power.

4 What does “design” mean to you?

Design is great power that influences people. I’m in commercial design and is focused on efficiency. So, our design solutions help our clients sell their products better and raise the profit as well make their brand stronger and more emotional.

5 What’s your favorite kind of design and why?

Packaging design and brand identity is what I’m an expert in. It’s not about nice-looking pictures and patterns but about the design system that delivers the message, creates the connection with the customer and results in sales increase.

6 To you, what makes a “good” design?

Good design is the one that overtakes you, creates an emotion and leads to purchase. It also corresponds with brand platform and moves the brand forward.

7 Describe your design style and its main characteristics.

The style depends on the target audience of the product or business. But more often we deliver catchy, meaningful and clean design solutions. We don’t like a mess of different texts and illustration. Good design is minimalistic but tasty, with one strong message and clear idea.

8 Tell us about your design process.

We start with the discovery and learn as much as possible about the product, its customers and competitors. Also collect the relevant inspiration boards with references that help us to come up with a vision of the project. Once we got it, we proceed with the concept of logo, identity or packaging design. When the team and our client are happy with the concept we dig into details and spend some time tailoring and detailing. Then finish the project, prepare print ready files, guidelines and wrap the case. The important phase is the supervision of the production and all the materials for a successful launch – visualization, web-site, e-commerce banners and cards, if necessary, SM playbook, brand video, etc.

9 Do you think your country and its cultural heritage has an impact on your design process?

Absolutely. The cultural background is very important and influences our work. We got people from different countries and communities in the team. This diversity creates opportunities, makes our solutions more precise and variable.

10 Congratulations! As the winner of the 2023 MUSE Design Awards, what does it mean to you and your company and team to receive this award distinction?

Its’s success and honor for us. Platinum from a professional jury is something outstanding. It means a lot for our team. We are inspired and motivated to work harder and create impactful projects.

11 Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2023 MUSE Design Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?

It’s a strong branding case with great strategy and bright idea. We made it from the scratch starting with a brand platform, naming, bottle shape and packaging design including logo and identity element. It’s case based on two quite contradictory things – alcohol and sports.

12 What was the biggest challenge with this project?

Our challenge was to create a modern concept for Scandinavian akvavit – a traditional strong Scandinavian drink. There are too many akvavites on the market so we had to come up with something fresh and unexpected. Our creative lead is a cocker fan. That’s how we came up with the idea. We were so excited that the further process went easy and fast. The client loved the brand and design as well as the customers.

13 How has winning an Award developed your practice/career?

It’s just happened so it a little early to talk about the impact of winning on our business. But we already got some inquiries from clients and connected with some potential partners. Hope it’s just the beginning.

It changes people’s lives, it makes our world the better place and it’s about emotions, beauty and outstanding results if you do your job well.

15 What makes your country specifically, unique in the design industry?

Our country is a country if diversity, multi cultures and very different people. It’s a best possible background for outstanding desing and branding – catch, impressive and effective.

It’s hard to predict. But I feel that solutions will become braver, some old trends will come back, messages will become clearer and people will choose clean design solutions with ideas and storytelling.
