SWC is a product designed to protect the growth of shelterbelts, mainly acacia trees in the Sahara Desert of Africa, to stop the wind from blowing down their immature trunks and collect a small amount of dew and rain below. When water is insufficient, it is released into the soil by diffusion, providing for tree growth. When the trunk has grown to a certain size, the product breaks down back into the soil and is made of pruned branches and gum from Senegalese catechuas, which last about one to two years. The product will be coated with bitter oil to reduce pest and disease access and increase seedling growth in the first year. Shelterbelts reduce weed growth and livestock gnawing and increase the survival of young trees.
