About The Entry

The landscape design of Puyun, a residential property in Nanjing, takes inspiration from the painting theory of the Northern Song Dynasty called "Linquan Gaozhi". This theory discusses the beauty of landscapes in terms of "looking, walking, traveling, and living." It emphasizes that landscapes offer various activities, expectations, exploration, and inhabitation. These aspects are considered excellent outcomes in landscape painting. However, the ability to swim and reside in a landscape is even more desirable and promising. With this concept in mind, the designers aimed to recreate the dialogue between the living space and the courtyard. As a result, the team created twenty-three courtyard-style residential spaces that resemble landscape painting blocks. These spaces allow residents to gradually uncover and experience the landscape's beauty, much like unrolling a long scroll of landscape and humanities.
