Unboxing Daxi

Since the Qing Dynasty, Daxi has flourished as a vital hub for goods distribution, owing to its strategic location along the Dahan River shipping route, becoming an integral part of the international trade network and giving rise to the earliest bustling market streets in the Taoyuan region. Over the past century, the street culture has accumulated rich tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Since its inauguration in 2016, the "Daxi Historical Hall" has provided visitors with insights into Daxi's industries, social customs, and the lives and history of its inhabitants. In 2023, the exhibition has been entirely refreshed, incorporating years of accumulated research findings, integrating local exhibition resources, and utilizing new media presentation techniques to explore the diverse facets of Daxi alongside the audience.

The "Unboxing Daxi" exhibition is divided into six main themes: "Originating from the Dahan River", "Roots and Expansion", "Joy in Daxi", "Promotion of Daxi Woodcraft", "Collaboration and Business Prosperity", and "Telling Daxi Stories". Highlights include the use of "mechanical wood installations combined with projection", "interactive touchscreen walls", and "contextual projection" for display design. Additionally, there are six documentary films, five lifelike models, eleven physical and multimedia interactive installations, and six situational displays, bringing Daxi's rich documentary materials, old photographs, and other knowledge content closer to audiences of all ages in an inclusive manner, making the once daunting cultural and historical content more approachable and leaving a lasting impression on visitors. The exhibition also features various interactive teaching aids to provide hands-on wood knowledge experiences and a variety of wooden chairs crafted by Daxi wood artisans for visitors to try out, experiencing the diverse styles of Daxi woodworking.
