About The Entry
Taiwan Golf Club, as Taiwan's first golf course, is set in a picturesque and culturally rich location, adjacent to historical sites such as Fort San Domingo and Oxford College, creating a unique blend of heritage and natural beauty. Established in 1919, the club spans the Taisho and Showa periods of Japan and the Republic of China era, maintaining its historic name as a symbol of honor and tradition. The architecture, influenced by Western styles during the Japanese occupation, has been renovated to showcase a refined simplicity.
Modern golf originated in Scotland in 1456, with the 18-hole system established there, making Scotland the birthplace of golf. Taiwan Golf Club seamlessly integrates elements of Scottish clubs into its design, blending historical and contemporary spatial vocabularies to create a comfortable and culturally rich environment for members.
The interior design centers around lounge areas, table settings, and refreshment zones, using natural wood veneers, stone, leather, and carpets. These materials' textures and light-colored walls create a layered and dynamic space. The open design invites the lush outdoor scenery indoors, using mirrored surfaces to extend visual lines and enhance the sense of space. Every detail, from material selection to spatial layout, is meticulously considered to enhance the member experience. The lounge areas offer a comfortable rest environment, the table settings are ideal for socializing, and the refreshment zones provide a relaxing corner.
The club's design blends elements of Scottish golf culture with modern design languages, using natural light and mirrored reflections to create a bright and expansive interior space, fostering a harmonious integration with nature. This thoughtful combination of preserving historical architecture and incorporating contemporary design, along with the careful selection of natural materials, aims to provide members with a unique and comfortable environment where they can enjoy the sport of golf while experiencing the richness of both cultural heritage and natural beauty.
