Fenghuang City Entrance and Landscape Leisure Trail

This project consists of the City Entrance and the Landscape Leisure Trail. It connects the Lansheng Station with Fenghuang City from top to bottom, providing a new and convenient way of access for mountain city tourism transportation with cultural sensitivity, which is open, fair and entertaining.

The design follows the concept of light-intervention and micro- renovation. Built according to the terrain and protecting the nature, the space is arranged through elevators, escalators and trail platforms. Methods of vertical, oblique and folding are used to make a combination of linear space transitions, which creates a free-flowing space, gradually lifted and balances the height difference of about 70 meters. The platforms are placed at the highest point of the site, which can be used differently according to the seasons and tourist periods, forming a situational space for multi-angle viewing, and providing citizens and tourists with urban public facilities with flexibility and adaptability.

The platforms and trails are steel structures, using hollow hot-dip galvanized grid plates and metal tie rods. They are connected to ground in a point-like manner, so that they are suspended above the mountain in a highly permeable form. While ensuring safety and stability, it allows rainwater to penetrate easily, maximizing the protection for the existing ecological environment.

The City Entrance consists of a transfer hall and management rooms. It is a micro-renovation of a five-story residential building. The original structural system and architectural elements such as bricks, tiles and window lattices are retained. The facade is repaired with glass in a window-like method, which not only protects the texture of the original building materials, but also integrates with the newly-added elevator, balancing regional culture and modern temperament, and promoting the sustainable recycling of urban resources, providing a new path for urban renewal with social responsibility and spatial inclusiveness.
