FloatNest: Giving Voice to Rivers

FloatNest bridges the gap between communities and water quality, combining physical floating islands and an interactive digital interface to raise awareness and inspire action.

The physical islands serve dual purposes:

Creature Habitat Islands: Multi-layered structures providing habitats for birds, grass, and underwater mussels, supporting biodiversity.
Sensor Islands: Equipped with sensors for pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, temperature, and heavy metals, these islands translate data into intuitive light displays, helping users visualize river health.

The digital interface offers three interactive views:

Human Activity: See how pH, turbidity, and temperature impact swimming or kayaking.
Wildlife and Plants: Explore how turbidity and oxygen levels affect ducks, plants, and ecosystems.
Underwater Ecosystem: Adjust dissolved oxygen and heavy metals to observe their effects on fish health and populations.

A fundraising tab encourages communities to contribute to river-saving efforts and track real-time progress, making environmental action tangible.

By integrating science, storytelling, and design, FloatNest empowers communities to reconnect with their rivers, fostering a sustainable lifestyle that harmonizes with nature.
