Zhi Lan: A Lobby Design Centered on Sustainable Development

The project is located in Shenyang. It’s structured around the theme of "space&media", ingeniously integrating mechanical aesthetics with green ecological elements to create a cultural space for traveling, living and relaxing. We aim to convey the symbiotic concept of industrial strength and green sustainability through the combination of space and media. Steel, as a symbol of industry, signifies the progress and strength of human civilization while green ecology symbolizes the continuation of nature and life. The mixture of the two elements indicates the harmonious coexistence of modern civilization and natural environment.

This hotel was remodeled from an old factory. The steel frame structure not only makes a tremendous visual impact, but presents the power of industrial aesthetics. We finely polished the steel surface with modern technology, giving it a warm glow and then subtly reducing the coldness and strength of steel. The steel structure serves as the frame of buildings while it’s also cleverly mingled into the interior design and transformed into installations and furniture, showing the unique charm of industrial aesthetics.

Green ecological elements play a crucial role in the design. We introduce natural landscapes into the building and create a complete ecosystem with the arrangement of indoor and outdoor green plants as well as the construction of landscape walkways and sewage purification system. These green spaces provide fresh air and comfortable environments, and also become a medium between human and nature. The hotel is equipped with intelligent lighting and environmental control systems that can automatically make adjustments according to natural light and temperature to reduce energy consumption. The design of the water purification system further enhances the interaction between man and space. The large-scale water purification device in the southern part recycles water for the hotel landscape and ecological zone by collecting natural water sources such as sewage, rainwater, and snow, and provide a vital link for the harmonious coexistence of human beings and nature.
