Echoes of Heritage

“Echoes of Heritage” encapsulates our design philosophy: breathing new life into historical spaces while letting their past resonate in the present. This vision unites two buildings—Tuscania’s pilgrims’ shelter and Curinga’s thermal baths intervention—each celebrating heritage through contemporary innovation.

At Curinga, we reawaken Roman thermal bath ruins with a minimalist steel and translucent concrete structure. Rather than reconstructing, we encircle the remnants with a visitor path and interactive zones. Water features and light projections revive the baths’ essence, sparking imagination and personal engagement with history, as inspired by Bachelard’s poetic spaces.

In Tuscania, we transform an 8th-century church complex into a shelter for pilgrims during the Jubilee, themed “Pilgrims of Hope.” A series of symbolic gates, constructed with wood and bricks, integrate with the sacred site, creating spaces for singing, dining, and reflection. These portals link history and modernity, fostering spiritual renewal and community connection, ensuring the church thrives as a living sanctuary.

Shared Vision

On both sites, we prioritize dynamic interaction over passive preservation. Tuscania’s gates bridge sacred heritage with communal vitality; Curinga’s intervention amplifies the ruins’ narrative power. Employing sustainable, reversible techniques, we minimize impact, allowing historical voices to echo through modern forms. “Echoes of Heritage” thus harmonizes past and present, crafting spaces where memory, community, and imagination converge.
