Recreate——Maoshui Dong Village Rural Revitalization Excel

Maoshui Dong Village is located in Kuishan Town, Shizong County, Yunnan Province, China, and is an extremely ordinary rural village. The project plans to construct a rural community centre in the village centre, featuring comprehensive services such as external reception, communication, cultural display, and catering services.

The design begins with a very natural ‘intervention.’ In this seemingly ordinary village, there are stone walls made from local materials everywhere, making the village feel particularly harmonious with the rural landscape. Preserving the stone walls on the site is the most straightforward way to reveal the essence of the place. The new space is designed to intervene in a ‘light’ manner on the preserved stone walls, creating a sense of ‘transparency’ when overlaid with the delicate grove and existing courtyards. The newly created space is our sincere response to the landscape.
