A Home for My Sister: Love Rebuilt in Wood

This project is a heartfelt transformation of a 28-year-old apartment into a newlywed home for the designer’s younger sister, now a mother of a 9-month-old baby. Beyond architectural renewal, the space tells a story of family, care, and the desire to create a healthy, safe haven for a growing family.

The original layout was outdated and rigid, unsuited for modern life and infant care. Every design decision stemmed from a single intention: to create a space where a child could crawl, explore, and grow without worry. Warm wood flooring was installed throughout the home, offering not just aesthetic comfort but also a soft, safe surface for little hands and knees. Custom-built system cabinets were used to reduce formaldehyde emissions, ensuring a cleaner indoor environment—especially vital for a young child.

The design balances functionality and emotional warmth. Storage is integrated subtly, avoiding visual clutter, while natural light fills the rooms to nurture both body and spirit. Soft curves, calm tones, and tactile materials bring a sense of tranquility to a once-tired space.

More than just a renovation, this is a gesture of love—an elder sister’s gift to ensure her sibling and nephew begin this new chapter in a place that feels both protective and inspiring. It is a testament to how thoughtful residential design can turn an old apartment into a meaningful home.
