Nap Cat is an outdoor installation centered on the concept of emotional healing. The project translates emotion into a language of public design, drawing inspiration from the unguarded, drowsy state of an orange cat at rest. By transforming a sense of ease and calm into a spatial symbol that can be seen, entered, and remembered, the installation establishes a gentle and approachable emotional connection between the city and its people. With its extraordinary scale, Nap Cat functions as a highly recognizable public landmark—one that softens urban space through warmth, intimacy, and emotional resonance. At a height of 19.3 meters, Nap Cat exceeds the conventional scale limits of outdoor inflatable installations. Its extraordinary proportion establishes a powerful visual focal point within cultural, tourism, or commercial environments, amplifying subtle emotional qualities such as softness and relaxation at a spatial level. The monumental scale is not intended to overwhelm; instead, through a reclined posture and low center of gravity, the design balances grandeur with intimacy. Viewers are invited to look upward without feeling distanced, gently guided into a slower rhythm and a more relaxed engagement with their surroundings. Digital 3D modeling was employed to precisely control body proportions, structural tension, and facial expression. Half-closed eyes, a subtly pursed mouth, and naturally draping body curves together compose a restrained yet emotionally expressive “sleeping” gesture. In this project, form itself serves as a primary vehicle for emotional storytelling. Even in its inflated state, the installation maintains volumetric clarity and structural stability, allowing soft materials to achieve a level of visual precision that transcends scale. Enlarged to a monumental size, the figure remains vivid, gentle, and approachable.
Nap Cat establishes a high level of originality through its unique combination of scale, character, and emotional tone. Rather than relying on exaggerated dynamism or spectacle, the design’s “giant yet drowsy” posture creates a memorable contrast that distinguishes it from conventional IP figures. Within the dense, fast-paced context of contemporary cities, this calm and humorous presence becomes a highly shareable visual symbol—enhancing site recognition, public engagement, and cultural destinations alike.
