About The Entry
Located at the former site of the Hefei Cigarette Factory, this project integrates the city's industrial history with modern design. Positioned at the intersection of Hefei's east-west development corridor and industrial zones, it serves as a connection point for the city's urban areas while honoring 48 years of industrial memory. Drawing inspiration from the site's original architectural elements, such as the classical “dome and column” forms, the design concept blends “Modern Light Luxury” with “Contemporary Oriental,” reinterpreting historical heritage through contemporary design.
The project aims to create a high-quality space for young urban professionals and middle-class families, providing an environment that combines both aesthetic appeal and refined consumerism. The design sets itself apart from typical market sales offices by focusing on "emotional connection" and "memory reimagining." It transforms the space into a museum of urban memory, incorporating cultural heritage from the historic Three Kingdoms site and the industrial legacy of the old cigarette factory.
The greatest design challenge was balancing the site’s historical elements with contemporary functionality. Rather than replicating classical motifs, the design abstracted them through deconstructivist techniques, using modern metallic lines and translucent materials. The sales center also needed to function as a clubhouse, so movable partitions and an intelligent lighting system were introduced, allowing the space to adapt from an open display area to a private community space.
Sustainability plays a key role, with eco-friendly materials, energy-saving strategies, and a modular hardscape design that allows for future conversions. The design incorporates renewable stone materials and low VOC paints, maximizing natural light and reducing energy consumption with sensor-based lighting systems. This approach ensures the space’s long-term functionality and value, creating a flexible environment for future community use.
