About The Entry
Rooted in the rich cultural heritage of Shaoxing, a city renowned for its water towns and intellectual legacy, this project draws inspiration from the area's historical significance and literary figures, such as Lu Xun. The design concept, “New Tai Gate,” aims to create a contemporary living paradigm that revitalizes Shaoxing's cultural context in modern life. The Tai Gate, a symbol of identity and honor since the Spring and Autumn Period, embodies the philosophy of farming and scholarly heritage, which the project seeks to honor and reinterpret.
The interior design is deeply influenced by Shaoxing's humanistic memories, reflecting the literary sentiment of the region and transforming the nostalgia of Lu Xun's hometown into spatial narratives. Traditional crafts like Yuexiu Embroidery, blended incense, and hand-painted screens serve as cultural links between the past and present, infusing the space with warmth and unique craftsmanship. The textures of Shaoxing Rice Wine, the misty atmosphere of water towns, and the warmth of daily life converge to create a "regional charm" that resonates through color, texture, and atmosphere, making the space both visually and sensorially immersive.
The design differentiates itself by using a color palette inspired by Shaoxing’s water towns, presenting a calm, gentle tone. The layout embraces the rhythm and aesthetics of oriental gardens, with each step offering a changing view, making every return to the space a poetic journey. The integration of regional culture and spatial aesthetics fills a gap in similar designs, highlighting its unique value.
Sustainability is integral to the material selection, with a focus on renewable and recyclable materials like bamboo, fast-growing wood, and recycled metals and glass. Local raw materials and natural fibers such as cotton, linen, and silk ensure environmental responsibility while maintaining comfort. The project is a modern interpretation of Shaoxing's culture, blending traditional architectural spirit with contemporary living demands, offering both cultural depth and comfortable living.
