About The Entry

SHANHAI YIXI: Drawing from Distant Mountains to Craft a Spatial Narrative.

A Contemporary Translation of Local Terroir.

Chenzhou—a city woven from landscape paintings. Drawing from ore, Danxia textures, and mountain forms, the design translates hills and waters into a spatial narrative. Landforms become immersive experiences; nature transforms into structural motifs. Space is no longer mere container, but a field charged with emotion—where stepping inside opens a perceptual dialogue with mountain and sea.

Shanhai Yixi distills Chenzhou’s Danxia, Dongjiang Lake, and mining tunnels into visual symbols. Folded planes rise like stratified rock; light and shadow flow like watercourses. Walking through is like traversing a miniature landscape. Dining becomes a dialogue with geology—taste links to memory, spirit touches belonging.

01 — The Bones of Stone: A Spatial Deconstruction

Drawing from Danxia mountain stone, the design translates rock strata into spatial grammar. Masses are segmented, stacked, interwoven—sketching the skeleton of space. This space does not imitate the mountain; it becomes the mountain, speaking through structure of the land’s gravity.

02 — The Color of Danxia: Emotion in Space

The palette of Danxia—ochre red, crimson, pale yellow, ink grey—becomes an emotional language. Ink-toned floors like riverbeds, Danxia-textured walls recalling rock strata: color and material intertwine in an Eastern painted realm, completing the passage from landform to soul.

03 — The Spirit of Landscape: Lyricism in Space

Rock as ink, space as scroll. At the entrance, stone walls rise; cascading water murmurs, marking the boundary between city and forest. A winding path draws you inward. In the reception hall, light, shadow, water, and mist weave an immersive tableau. In the courtyard, shadows of trees, forms of stone, and sound of water condense into a landscape symphony.

Shanhai Yixi engages all five senses, translating Chenzhou’s landscape into a perceivable realm. Here, tasting is a full experience of mountain and water. Sight, sound, scent, touch, taste resonate together—every breath filled with nature’s vitality, every dish a cultural annotation. Between the silence of rock and the murmur of water, a spiritual homecoming unfolds.

Taste traces mountain and sea; the feast returns to one seat.
