Hai Hoa Beach Resort occupies a 2.4-hectare coastal site in the Tinh Gia district of Thanh Hoa province, Vietnam, a landscape defined by pristine beaches, mountain backdrops and proximity to historic fishing villages. SOG design was appointed to deliver the architecture and masterplan for a 4-star hotel, eight luxury villas, a standalone beachfront restaurant, and shared resort facilities across a total GFA of 25,000 sqm.
The central architectural challenge was ensuring every guestroom and villa had direct, unobstructed sea views across a low-rise site. The response was an L-shaped, terraced hotel massing that steps down toward the beach, orienting all guest-facing facades seaward while carefully managing sun exposure and inter-unit privacy. The low-rise approach was a deliberate commitment to preserving the natural character of the coastline rather than dominating it.
Architectural form draws from the region's naval heritage. Semi-curved lines, chamfered corners and balcony terraces extending along the facade evoke the fluidity of waves and the silhouette of seafaring vessels, an expression rooted in cultural context rather than superficial theming. Rounded corners soften the building's presence within the landscape, reinforcing the resort's organic relationship with its surroundings.
The masterplan positions amenities like pools, water features and landscaped terraces, between the hotel and the beach, creating a layered arrival and discovery sequence for guests. An elevated lobby and drop-off zone frames panoramic coastal views from the moment of arrival. Villas are accessed via meandering paths through organic landscaping, ensuring privacy and a sense of seclusion within a shared resort setting.
Hai Hoa Beach Resort demonstrates that sensitive site planning and culturally grounded architectural language can produce a resort that feels inseparable from its place.
