About The Entry

Mars Age is a mechanical timepiece conceived around humanity's journey into deep space. Inspired by Mars and the possibility of unknown civilisations, it translates celestial motion into a mechanical timekeeping system — redefining the relationship between human beings, time, and the cosmos.

At the heart of the watch is a time-reading architecture centred on planetary motion. Earth, the Moon, and Mars are unified within a single orbital system. The Mars disc serves as the hour indicator, completing each transition through the interplay of axial rotation and orbital revolution. The minute system employs a "spacecraft relay" mechanism, with a rocket hand and a double-tipped hand alternating in motion to trace a mechanical trajectory across the dial. The central seconds disc simulates a cosmic propulsion path, bringing the experience of reading time closer to a continuously operating miniature interstellar system.

The colour palette is inspired by phenomena documented by NASA on Mars. At Martian sunrise and sunset, a brief blue-violet luminescence appears around the sun — a spectral gradient translated into the dial's tripartite structure of orange, violet, and blue. The violet zone also evokes the spectral signature of ancient lacustrine sedimentary rock observed at Mount Sharp, a key indicator of Mars' early aquatic environment. The colour language is not decorative — it is a precise translation of real Martian terrain and cosmic optical phenomena.

The central Mars hour disc, 8mm in diameter, is crafted from titanium alloy via selective laser melting, with the topography of Valles Marineris reproduced at 0.02mm tolerance. The ATOWAK Earth disc and natural ink jade Moon disc form the central celestial system, driven by the planetary gear train to create a mechanical cosmos of layered spatial depth and visual immersion. The aerospace-grade carbon fibre composite case and Grade 5 titanium components balance low mass with high structural integrity, while a dual-dome sapphire crystal deepens the dial's spatial perspective.

Mars Age does not attempt to depict a future in which humanity has already reached Mars. It captures the moment before departure — when Earth is still home, and yet the human gaze has already turned toward the unknown.
