About The Entry

BLOOMING ROSE is a wedding installation that envisions “the largest floating rose blooming over the Indian Ocean.” Set within the natural landscape of the Maldives, the project transforms the wedding venue into an immersive spatial experience that merges romance, nature, and sustainable design.

Because the site was not originally designed as a wedding venue and contained irregularly planted tropical trees, the design abandoned conventional large-scale structural construction from the outset. Instead, the project adopted a lightweight vertical spatial strategy built around flexible linear forms and recyclable materials. Without obstructing the panoramic ocean view, the installation rises upward into the form of a fully blossoming suspended rose. A hollow structural framework creates the illusion of floating petals, while layered gradient floral compositions evoke the organic unfolding of a rose in bloom. Curved stem-like pathways guide guests through the space, and the seating arrangement extends naturally like rose leaves, integrating every guest into the emotional composition of the ceremony.

The project also redefines traditional wedding layouts by merging the ceremony and banquet into one unified spatial narrative. With a relatively intimate guest count, the central floral structure functions as both ceremonial backdrop and evening-stage centerpiece, allowing every attendee to feel emotionally connected to the couple and fully immersed in the atmosphere of love and blessing.

Beyond aesthetics, BLOOMING ROSE advocates a sustainable “circular wedding” philosophy. Recyclable materials such as metalwork, natural shells, coconut husks, and reusable floral elements replace disposable decorative systems commonly associated with destination weddings. This approach reduces environmental pressure on island ecosystems while minimizing marine waste and potential harm to nearby coral reefs.

The project ultimately proposes a new vision of wedding design—one that shifts luxury away from excess and toward emotional depth, natural harmony, and meaningful human connection. By combining ecological awareness with poetic spatial storytelling, BLOOMING ROSE becomes not only a celebration of love, but also a reflection on sustainability, community participation, and the evolving aesthetics of contemporary rituals.
