About The Entry
This is a nest built of books, wood, light, and sound. Located on the top floors, this project is a three-story duplex penthouse apartment. Conceptually named "Book Nest," the design responds to the resident's lifestyle character, intricately woven from an extensive collection of books, vinyl records, and solid wood elements. By completely dismantling the pre-existing partitions, the space reallocates social area, dining area, kitchen, and private area across different levels. This layout allows reading, listening, dining, and resting to each find their proper place, while remaining seamlessly connected via the staircase and natural light.
Grounded in the cultural synthesis of Japanese and Western styles, the designer incorporates a wabi-sabi aesthetic, selecting natural solid materials personally treasured by the homeowner—such as Taiwan hinoki cypress, acacia wood, and camphor wood—to permanently ground the timber's texture, aroma, and sense of time into daily life. The daybed reading area beside the stairs feels like a quiet corner tucked inside a tree hollow, where window light settles between book spines and wooden steps, transforming vertical circulation into an act of exploration. Ample storage is distributed across floors through display cabinets, recessed shelving, and concealed functionalities, ensuring that books and collections are beautifully showcased yet impeccably preserved.
