About The Entry
Located in Rencun Village, Yuncheng, Shanxi, this Eastern minimalist architecture captures the essence of time and presents the designer’s spiritual journey.
Developed with a long-term, low-commercial and cost-effective organic construction approach, the design unifies spatial form and spiritual connotation, leading architecture back to its original purity.
Inspired by The Peach Blossom Spring, the project adapts to the rural site with two functional zones: a serene private residence and a transparent street-front studio. Separated yet interconnected, the two areas balance privacy and openness and integrate harmoniously into the local countryside.
Under iterative development since 2011, the project has been refined over more than a decade across design, structure, landscape and details. Breaking away from rigid conventional construction, it respects site context, spatial logic and cross-cultural perspectives, evolving into a sustainable, living architectural entity.
Guided by the Eastern philosophy of "Emptiness", the design integrates diverse values. It adopts local bricks, stones and timber alongside proven low-tech construction techniques. The modest material palette fosters harmonious coexistence between people, objects and spaces, creating a poetic spatial narrative rooted in the site.
Avoiding excessive subjective expression, the architecture evolves naturally with its surroundings and serves as an authentic spiritual reflection of the designer.
Addressing prevalent modern spiritual struggles, this work redefines minimalism. Rather than superficial formal simplification, it delivers profound spiritual depth through concise philosophical thinking.
The non-commercial, low-cost construction model offers a thoughtful response to the capitalization trend in architecture. Through layout optimization, eco-friendly strategies, local material adoption and streamlined workflows, the design balances practicality, ecology and cost efficiency, restoring architecture’s intrinsic value.
With understated Eastern aesthetics, the project explores architectural essence, spiritual belonging and cultural identity. It connects individuals, spaces and the contemporary era, forging a distinctive path for modern architecture rooted in Eastern local culture.
