Dusk Gathering

A home becomes meaningful because family members continue choosing to return and gather. Located near Taipei Main Station, Dusk Gathering occupies less than 66.1 square meters. During weekdays, it serves as a comfortable residence for the mother and caregiver; on weekends, it transforms into a gathering place for children and grandchildren.

Working within a ceiling height of approximately 3.1 meters, the design team maximized vertical space and transformed the original one-bedroom layout into a two-bedroom configuration. The bright yellow primary bedroom incorporates a raised sleeping platform and upper-level double sleeping area, while the smaller secondary bedroom uses black, white, and gray tones together with bunk beds. Combined, the two rooms can accommodate up to ten people for short stays.

The social area integrate the foyer, kitchen, dining area, and living room into one unified environment. The large orange cabinetry references both the red brick architecture of Dadaocheng and memories associated with the mother’s dowry furniture and vintage household pieces.

Smart home systems, eco-friendly materials, projection systems, and separated bathroom zoning together balance caregiving, safety, and high-density family use.

This compact residence folds limited square footage into a map of family relationships. When familiar furniture once again finds its place, the journey home also gains a warmer direction.
