About The Entry

The site is a 79.3 square meters pre-owned apartment designed for two residents. Although the original layout provided basic living functions, the indoor lighting felt restrained since the living and dining areas relied heavily on the French doors at the far end of the living room. Rooted in minimalist American country style, the designer extracted molding, arches, and grayscale gradations as the design vernacular to reconfigure the limited floor plan into a more unobstructed everyday setting. The entryway opens with a lower, darker hallway experience that guides the gaze toward the social area, making the space feel like a small art gallery where one gradually transitions from quiet gray shadows into the light of daily life.

The highlight centers entirely on "amplification." The team released parts of the original storage room and walk-in closet to the dining area and kitchen, positioning the social area as the core theme of the residence. Consequently, the kitchen scale was expanded, and the dining area transformed from a mere subsidiary corner into a multifunctional hub for dining, working, reading, and interacting. Layered ceiling details enhance the visual height; the transition from the low entryway to the high social area creates a rhythm of contraction and expansion, allowing residents to naturally feel the space unfold as they move through it.

The entryway walls feature an architectural concrete coating to establish a cool gray texture. Paired with artwork, it avoids revealing the full picture of the home immediately upon entry, maintaining a sense of anticipation and ritual. Upon entering the living room, the wood flooring extends a sense of warmth, while white molding cabinets and gray walls form a soft contrast. Curved ceilings and rounded tables soften the sharp edges typically found in small-scale layouts. The overall design eschews complex ornamentation, instead relying on gray transitions, balanced panel proportions, and curved edgings to ensure this minimalist American style retains detail and order within its cool tones.
