About The Entry
Rooted in Neo-Naturalism, the project interprets Western Sichuan’s composite landscapes as a spatial system rather than visual reference. River valleys, forests, alpine meadows, and snow-capped mountains are abstracted into a continuous field of eight landscape conditions—colored pools, waterfalls, gorges, floating islands, and forest terrains—through which mountain-water typologies are reorganized into lived spatial sequences.
A strategy of condensation replaces representation. Organic curves derived from mountain and river grains structure movement and terrain, compressing the scale of Western Sichuan into a contained site where topography, vegetation, and water operate as a single spatial logic.
The sunken courtyard acts as the core of this system, translating snow mountain river valley dynamics into two distilled conditions: snowmelt runoff and the horizontal snowline. Water is constructed as layered overflow edges informed by travertine formations, interwoven with vegetated floating islands to form a slow hydrological field. Earth-covered volumes emerge from the terrain as landform extensions, while gorge-like spatial cuts reactivate residual zones and define transitions between spaces.
Material and planting are calibrated toward ecological continuity rather than surface effect. Foamed ceramic supports terrain integration in earth-covered structures, while Beige Golden Marble introduces durability within seating zones. Vertical canopy planting and understory shade-tolerant species reconstruct a layered forest floor condition, reinforcing the ecological structure of Western Sichuan within a controlled spatial framework.
