About The Entry

"A Hospital in the Forest" — this is the core concept behind the Taizhou Hospital New District, a 1,200-bed comprehensive medical facility in Zhejiang Province, China.

This grand project integrates healthcare, emergency services, scientific research, education, and preventive medicine. Driven by this foundational concept, the design incorporates expansive green corridors, terraces, sunken gardens, and the surrounding riverside landscape. The result is a soothing healing environment where patients can deeply feel the presence of rich nature even from indoors.

In addition, creating a "User-Friendly Hospital" serves as another essential concept. By introducing a central T-shaped atrium that cuts through the lower levels, the project implements a "wayfinding" philosophy. This intuitive spatial configuration allows patients and visitors to naturally navigate to various departments without heavily relying on signage, providing a gentle and stress-free flow of movement.

Emphasizing the theme of wellness, the facility does not merely expand the scale of medical services; it aims to shift the hospital's traditional role from a treatment-focused facility to a progressive, complex model combining preventive care and education. Moving beyond a space solely for patients, it functions as a vibrant community hub—much like a public park—that supports the health and well-being of local residents.

Crucially, the defining feature of this project is its long-term sustainability. The master plan intentionally leaves several spatial blocks "blank" and reserves an expandable development area between the main building and auxiliary facilities. By reducing waste and preserving space, the hospital can seamlessly adapt and expand for future advanced medical technologies and service optimizations, achieving a smart, eco-friendly, and sustainable health city where wisdom and ecosystems live in perfect harmony.
