About The Entry

STARECHO is a wearable emotion recognition and collaborative care system designed for children with autism spectrum disorder. It focuses on a common challenge in autism care: many autistic children may find it difficult to express discomfort through language, especially when they experience sensory overload caused by noise, light, touch, environmental changes or social pressure. Before crying, avoidance or emotional outbursts occur, their bodies may already show signs of stress that are hard for caregivers to notice in time.

The system is built around a detachable smart watch core. In daily use, it is worn on the child’s wrist to collect physiological and behavioral data, including heart rate, skin conductance and movement patterns. Rather than simply labeling emotions, STARECHO recognizes changes in each child’s individual state. By building a personalized baseline, it helps identify abnormal fluctuations that may indicate rising stress, sensory overload or communication difficulties.

When continuous abnormal changes are detected, the platform sends risk notifications to parents, teachers or therapists. Caregivers can then observe the environment and respond with suitable calming strategies, such as reducing sensory stimulation, moving the child to a quieter space, using familiar objects or applying methods recorded by therapists.

STARECHO also connects home, school and rehabilitation settings through a shared digital platform. Parents, teachers and therapists can record triggers, behavioral responses and effective intervention methods, allowing useful care experience to follow the child across different scenarios.

The detachable watch core can also be embedded into modular training toys. During interactive rehabilitation activities, it records participation, duration, completion rate and physiological changes, helping families and therapists track long-term progress.

Ultimately, STARECHO transforms invisible physical signals into understandable information and turns isolated care experience into shared knowledge, helping autistic children receive earlier, gentler and more coordinated support.
