About The Entry
Parallel Hour is a tangible interface that transforms a single physical gesture into an infinite narrative possibility. By pulling a length of string, participants trigger the real-time generation of an AI-authored parallel timeline — a story of the life they might have lived, had one decision gone differently.
The interaction design centers on a direct, embodied mapping between the physical and the digital: the tension and distance of the pulled string are mirrored by a red virtual thread on screen, whose movement in turn drives the temporal distortion of the generated narrative. There is no button to press, no menu to navigate — the physical string becomes the sole control surface, translating a bodily gesture into a shift in narrative time. Each pull references the actual, real-time clock, meaning no two sessions ever generate the same parallel story. The red thread draws on its meaning in East Asian culture as a symbol of fated connection — here, reimagined as the link between the life one is living and the one that could have been.
Through this physical-to-virtual thread, Parallel Hour makes the emotional weight of an irreversible choice — regret, possibility, an alternate life — tactile and personal. In imagining a life not lived, participants are drawn back to the one they are living now. It is a small act with an infinite what-if behind it.
