Nanshihu No. 72 Revetment Ecological Restoration

In October 2024, Typhoon Krathon brought over 600 mm of rainfall to Jinshan, triggering upstream slope failures. Massive volumes of sediment and driftwood destroyed revetments, intake weirs, and irrigation canals, burying farmland, homes, and the original stream channel across nearly 2 kilometers.

The design team immediately cleared the channel after the storm, initiated planning and design in November, and mobilized for construction by late December. The governance strategy focused on reinforcing existing structures along the first 400 meters and reshaping the channel from 400 to 800 meters, leaving upstream reaches flexible for observation and natural recovery. The project rebuilt flood discharge cross-sections based on hydrological conditions, utilizing stone revetments, drop structures, bed-fixing structures, desilting facilities, and irrigation repairs to stabilize water flow and sediment while preserving existing trees and riverbed structures.

Completed on schedule on July 31, 2025—about 10 months after the disaster—the project safeguards downstream residents, transportation, and farmland safety, building resilient conditions for future extreme rainfall events.
