The Dissolution of Symbols is an original contemporary art installation project created by DAQIAN Atelier, featuring two large-scale artworks, The Dissolution of Mercury and The Gazed. The project explores the transformation of cultural symbols and the evolving relationship between artwork, space, and human perception. Through the reinterpretation of classical imagery and the exploration of unconventional materials, the artists challenge traditional boundaries between sculpture, installation, and environment.

In The Dissolution of Mercury, the classical sculpture Mercure monte sur Pegase is reimagined through wax, replacing the permanence of marble with a fluid and transformative material language. Through slicing and melting techniques, the original mythological symbol is deconstructed and reconstructed, revealing a contemporary dialogue between historical heritage and artistic innovation.

The Gazed further explores the relationship between observation and existence. A monumental face formed by stretched fabric emerges from the architectural surface, transforming the wall into an expressive medium. As natural light interacts with the textile texture, shifting shadows reveal the contours of the face, creating a reciprocal gaze in which viewers become both observers and participants.

By combining sculptural transformation, material experimentation, and spatial interaction, The Dissolution of Symbols presents a contemporary artistic exploration of memory, identity, and perception. The project invites audiences to reconsider how symbols are inherited, transformed, and experienced, creating a dynamic dialogue between artwork, architecture, and human consciousness.
