About The Entry

Hangzhou, once described by Marco Polo as the “most beautiful and luxurious city in the world,” embodies a distinctive dialogue between profound cultural heritage and contemporary urban vitality. From the historical landscape of West Lake to the modern skyline of the Qiantang River, the city continues to balance tradition with innovation.

Drawing inspiration from Hangzhou’s historical texture, the residence explores a contemporary expression of modern luxury rooted in the refined spirit of Jiangnan culture. Centered on the concept of “Tradition Renewed,” the design reinterprets cultural heritage through an international design language characterized by simplicity, restraint, and architectural clarity. Rather than reproducing traditional forms, it transforms their underlying spirit into a contemporary living experience.

The living room is conceived as a gallery where art and daily life coexist. Natural light, sculptural artworks, flowing stone textures, and refined furnishings create a calm spatial narrative, while subtle references to trees, bamboo, and ink-wash landscapes introduce an understated oriental poetic quality. The dining area continues this language through a restrained palette and carefully balanced materials, creating an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere.

Private spaces place greater emphasis on comfort, serenity, and emotional connection. The master bedroom combines soft blue and beige tones with natural textures to create a peaceful retreat. The children’s room adopts a rational spatial order while incorporating artistic exploration, allowing the environment to evolve with its occupants. The study serves as a vessel for thoughts and collections, bringing together photography, artworks, books, and vintage mechanical elements to express an appreciation of time and culture.

The underground space extends the residential experience into a private sanctuary for social interaction, music, and art. Guided by the idea of the “Time Collector,” vinyl records, classic audio equipment, wooden furniture, and dark leather create a warm atmosphere where collections become part of everyday life rather than objects of display.

As dusk settles over the city, the terrace establishes a quiet transition between the residence and its urban surroundings. Through greenery, warm lighting, and open views, it becomes a place for reflection, connecting nature, the city, and the inner self.
