About The Entry

Intra begins with an overlooked contradiction in extreme-environment clothing: garments can protect the body from wind, water and cold, yet still require a woman to remove multiple layers for urination. In conditions where warmth is essential, a routine bodily need can cause thermal loss, reduce privacy and interrupt fieldwork.

The design resolves this problem within the garment itself. Intra is an integrated wearable urination system built into insulated trousers, allowing the wearer to urinate without removing her protective outer layers. A waterproof double zipper and protective flap provide quick access to a soft body interface. From there, a drainage tube follows the inner thigh to a quick connector and detachable collection module. Magnetic alignment and a mechanical lock support connection; the module can be removed and stored in a backpack. The sequence is designed for one-hand operation.

Its material architecture separates the demands of environment, privacy and body contact. A durable ripstop shell provides wind, water and abrasion protection. Insulation retains warmth. A TPU membrane forms a transparent waterproof barrier, while opaque fabric is used where privacy and abrasion resistance are required. At the point of contact, a soft interface is designed to be skin-friendly and leak-resistant.

Intra does not treat urination as a separate equipment problem or ask the wearer to step outside the protective logic of her clothing. Instead, it extends that logic inward: from outer shell to body interface, drainage and collection. Protection remains in place while privacy, warmth and mobility are maintained.

The project proposes a more complete standard for extreme-environment apparel—one in which privacy and dignity are not secondary to performance, but part of what performance clothing is designed to protect.
