About The Entry

ORBCOMM CT1000 is a game-changer in container tracking- a product that provides intelligence without the operational burden.

Shipping containers roll thru ports, rail terminals, logistics yards and vessels where tracking devices have to survive vibration, impact, weather, corrosion and constant physical exposure. Traditional tracking solutions can have challenges of their own: long installation times, frequent maintenance, limited power availability, poor durability and high costs to deploy.

CT1000 is designed around four principles: Fast, Robust, Autonomous and Sustainable.

Installation reduced to a repeatable 4 step process. The adhesive pads are peel-and-stick so the device can be positioned immediately; the device is the drilling template and it only takes two rivets to hold it in place. This results in an installation process roughly one minute, allowing for faster deployment on large container fleets.

Durability is built in, not bolted on. The electronics are fully encapsulated in protective potting material and housed within an outdoor-rated, impact and UV resistant enclosure built for years of continuous exposure. Impact, vibration, weather, temperature and corrosion have been considered in the design.

Autonomous operation is achieved by an upward-tilted solar surface, deliberately positioned to catch the overhead sunlight in real-world container scenarios including stacking, on-board and partial shading.

All surfaces have a function. Installation guides are integrated into the housing, mounting points are protected, material usage is optimized and the overall footprint is kept compact.

But sustainability goes beyond the device itself, with reduced material usage and packaging designed for efficient bulk shipping, no individual retail packaging or single use plastics.

CT1000 shows that thoughtful industrial design can make connected technology more quickly deployable, more robust, more autonomous and more sustainable.
