Circadian Lighting the Flatiron Building

The Flatiron Building is one of the most photographed structures on earth — a triangular limestone and

terracotta wedge that has anchored the Manhattan skyline since 1902. When developer Brodsky acquired

the property to transform it into 38 ultra-luxury residences, the mandate was clear: assemble the finest team

in the industry and deliver something worthy of the building’s legend.

OneButton was selected to bring Circadian lighting and technology to life inside each residence.

What followed was not just a successful integration — it was a fundamental rethinking of how

luxury home systems are designed, specified, and sold.

Developers typically shy away from incorporating technology into multi-unit builds as each owner has unique requirements. Once Broadsky the building developer recognized the benefit of an Intelligent Lighting System in streamlined infrastructure, aesthetic impact and occupant wellness the choice to deploy Circadian Lighting in every unit standard was clear.

The controls for the lighting fixtures were as sophisticated as the light. All the lights in a room are controlled simply through a single toggle on a coordinated metal switch plate. The toggle enables a dynamic (circadian) lighting scene by default a brighter alternate scene and dim warm scene through a press-hold action. Solar and blackout shades are controlled at the same keypad.

The building’s historic character is its identity. The technology inside it elevates

its livability.

The Flatiron Building has a distinct feature: few locations in Manhattan allow one to

experience both sunrise and sunset from a singular spot. The prow of the northern

units has this unique distinction — and furthers the experience as the astronomic

timeclock adapts the temperature of the outside light to that of the interior downlights,

table lamps, and chandeliers.

The light is perfectly matched — from the warmth of

sunrise, through crisp mid-day light, to the glow of

candlelight at night.
