LAYOVER

LAYOVER is an interactive installation designed for airport waiting areas, combining device charging, collaborative drawing, AI, and language exchange to create opportunities for travelers to connect.

The installation features interactive screens on two sides, allowing two travelers seated opposite each other to draw on the same digital canvas. Each person can freely draw a mood, a memory, something they noticed during their journey, or simply an idea they want to share. Their drawings appear and respond to each other in real time, while AI transforms spontaneous sketches into fluid visual graphics, gradually bringing two individual expressions together into one collaborative artwork.

LAYOVER also turns charging into part of the interaction. Travelers can only activate device charging after beginning the drawing experience, encouraging them to put down their phones and engage with the person sharing the space.

The experience extends from drawing into language exchange through a playful interactive game. One traveler can draw an object, while the system helps the other discover its corresponding word and pronunciation. By tracing characters, matching meanings, and practicing pronunciation, travelers can casually learn simple words from each other’s languages while discovering another culture.

Before leaving, travelers can scan a QR code to save their collaborative artwork to a digital gallery. The artwork can later be viewed and continued by other travelers, allowing each creation to become part of a growing collection of encounters.

Through these connected interactions, LAYOVER transforms the airport waiting experience into a space for creating, communicating, and discovering together.
