About The Entry

Prince Princess and The Dragon is a board game that centers on the idea of bringing the inner world to the table. It elevates the emotions, stress, and wishes that adolescents find hard to describe into selectable, placeable, and observable fairy-tale characters, creating a safer, lower-pressure approach to introspection. The princess, the prince, and the dragon stand as metaphors for inner feelings and true wishes, action and choice, and stress, fear, and self-protection, respectively; the castle, forest, lake, and tower constitute distinct psychological spaces. Players do not need to directly answer the question of what is happening inside them; instead, they observe the relationships among different inner forces through the distance, direction, position, and occlusion among the characters, gradually understanding their own feelings from a third-person perspective.

Unlike psychological products that overwhelm users with scales, ratings, or rigid interpretations, this game offers no standard answers, nor does it analyze or diagnose players. It incorporates open-ended fairy-tale stories for psychological distance, with each character placement holding personal meaning, shifting the way emotions are expressed from answering questions to telling one's own story.

In terms of interaction, Prince Princess and The Dragon extends the established board game beyond visual experience into tactile sensation. The board employs punch needle embroidery, weaving, stitching, and binding; it also uses different yarns, including milk cotton yarn, coral fleece, Iceland wool, and mohair. With variations in thickness, fuzziness, softness, and luster, these yarns shape meadows, forests, mountains, castles, and lakes, turning the flat map into a 3D tactile presentation with depth and tactile quality. Players thus gain a sense of bodily engagement through the slow actions of touching, placing, and moving, gradually relaxing and entering a state of introspection.

Prince Princess and The Dragon casts materials as carriers of emotional and spatial meaning. The board is durable, repairable, and reusable, while leftover yarn can be used for piece decoration, localized mending, and maintenance, avoiding material waste and improving durability.
