House of NYNN

House of NYNN is a private members’ club at The Ilisian in Athens. Its spaces bring together dining, conversation, work, exercise and rest. Edeko Lighting Studio designed the lighting across the club, addressing the different ways these places are used within a single project.

The Living Room is the social centre of the House, with a lounge, dining areas and bar. The Forum offers spaces for working and meeting, while the Wellness Floor is dedicated to movement and recovery. Each presents a different question for lighting design. The experience of sitting with friends is different from working at a desk or entering a space for

exercise, even though all three belong to the same club.

We approached House of NYNN through these changes in use. Our work considers each area on its own and the connections between them. Members move through the House over the course of a visit, sometimes staying in one place, sometimes passing from one activity to another. The lighting is part of how those spaces are experienced together.

House of NYNN gave us the opportunity to work across an unusually varied interior. Its lighting design extends beyond any one room or moment. It responds to the life of the club as a whole: the places where members gather, the places where they concentrate, and the places where they take time for themselves.
