About The Entry
“Wa-Kei-Sei-Jaku”
Nanaha Co., Ltd. communicates a “new form of Japan” to the world through the perspective of matcha.
High-quality matcha is served in contemporary forms, such as matcha lattes and other modern interpretations.
The space required for the brand is therefore not a traditional Japanese-style interior, but a contemporary tea room.
In the words of the owner, the aim is to create a place where people can experience Japan’s long-established tea culture through a contemporary interpretation.
The design is based on Wa-Kei-Sei-Jaku, the four principles of tea developed by Sen no Rikyū.
Wa represents harmony with others.
Kei represents mutual respect and consideration.
Sei represents clarity and purity of mind.
Jaku represents the quiet flow of time.
The space is designed as a place where a single cup of matcha can ease the noise of everyday life and restore a sense of calm — where nature and contemporary life gently merge.
The interior pairs matcha green with white, a colour familiar and approachable to everyone, gradually allowing the two colours to blend into one another.
Through matcha, the space offers visitors an opportunity to experience a contemporary expression of Japanese culture.
