Located in the Daming Palace National Park, this installation presents the restored map of the Daming Palace with the overlapping of the perspective relationship with the palace ruins as the basic logic and based on the site protection principle of "no restoration on top of the site" and Chinese heritage protection regulations. This design not only protects the site as much as possible, but also provides visitors with a clear perception of the palace architecture. Due to the destruction of the Daming Palace, there is a lack of historical materials on the appearance of the buildings and their construction. Despite of this, the design team independently completes the 3D modeling of the main palace with the help of the plan and section drawings provided by the archaeological research experts and the ancient architecture experts of the Daming Palace, and perfectly presents it on the installation. In terms of appearance, it adopts a double-layered structure, incorporating the core design concept of “Connection to the Flourishing Age” and implying the meaning of shaking hands between the past and the present and connecting the world. Meanwhile, due to the different sizes of the palace, the installation is divided into two types, observation windows and observation holes, to present different perspectives in the limited space of different palaces. Visitors can see the restored palace through the installation simply by standing at the corresponding point. The installation also combines the functions of signage, tour guide and archaeological achievements display, convenient for visitors to visit. In addition, visitors can know the architecture of the Daming Palace through interactive puzzle games, which are entertaining, scientific, and educational. Technically, the installation can withstand force 8 winds and above. Daming Palace is located in a special geographical position which is often accompanied by 8-10 force 8 winds in the windy winter months. In order to prevent the installation from being damaged by strong winds, the wind resistance problem was perfectly solved despite of its close calculations with only 50 cm foundation and a large wind area.
