Situated within the lush mountains of Hong Kong Island's Southern district, not only does the project share magnificent mountain views but also an interesting juxtaposition of city views against the backdrops of fathomless sea views that resemble traditional Chinese landscape paintings. Inspired by the unique building versus natural scenes, the design seeks to bring such visual experience outside-in and inside-out.
The intention is most prominently shown at the feature wall in the living room. As the tinted mirrors reflect the scenery outside the windows, the metal panels step along the extended silhouette and the mountain line. Together, they create another fold of the juxtaposition between man-made and nature. Imitating sōzu (a type of water fountain used in Japanese gardens), slot details are introduced along another mountain line that intercross with the one that defines the division between tinted mirror panels above and metal panels below. Drawing references from Van Goh’s The Starry Night, decorative capsule lights are located at every four slots to create a night scene where city lights are extended inside.
