The Whimsical Kitchen

We were tasked to transform 170 square-foot of wet and dry kitchen in to a whimsical, yet forward-thinking paradigm of design. Our agenda was to create a fuss-free functional showstopper for the owners. Incorporating top-of-the-range kitchen appliances from V-Zug and catering for endless amounts of storage, space planning was crucial to achieve that. Built-in fridge and freezer help to create a seamless experience.



From a design approach, we were in complete sync with the owners’ request of unorthodox boldness. We started by applying a funky royal blue spray paint on the cabinet doors, this blue also played a massive role in countering the baby pink scattered around the space. The cabinets are furnished with functional yet funky kitchen accessories from Hafele to store their drinking ware and Hermes porcelain wares. Bronze handles are cladded to the blue cabinet doors to add a touch of luxury.



Gold Subway tiles add rich texture to the backsplash and walls, the shimmering effect adding life and structure into the utilitarian space. A strong looking island counter anchors the space, taking control of any hints of chaos. The White slabs of Quartz have their edges cladded in grey mirror frames, whereas the talk of the town goes to the majestic slab of backlit Cloudy Onyx, with its rich veins reminiscent of the brush strokes from Chinese paintings.



At the back of the kitchen hides away a sliding door to the backyard. The semi-opaque screen allows natural to seep in while maintaining privacy. The kitchen is further decorated with GUBI’s Beetle Counter Stools and Multi-lite Pendants. The entire kitchen conjures openness while allowing natural light to enter. This beautiful whimsical kitchen connects beautiful to the dining space through the use of colours and textures. The perfect combination of style and function.
