Red Sea Public Utility Assets and Infrastructure Project

As one of the key engineering in “Vision 2030”proposed by the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, this tourism development project takes regenerative tourism and sustainable development as its core and integrates multi-energy complementation system to realize the application of 100% of clean and renewable energy, thereby lessening the dependence of Saudi Arabia on petroleum economy and helping the region achieve economic diversification.

The project covers various infrastructures like land and island photovoltaics, refrigeration, solid waste treatment, submarine cables, energy storage, seawater desalination, wastewater treatment, constructed wetland and so on. Via innovative technologies to optimize the interaction between each link of source-grid-load-storage-use, an all-round sustained regenerative tourism mode is set up in aspects including fresh water, food, energy, ecological protection and so on. The battery energy storage system in this project is the word’s largest new energy storage facility, the capacity of which is more than 1300MWh. Its combination with photovoltaic power plants allows the Red Sea tourist area completely relying on clean energy for off-grid power supply.

Up to now, nine international luxury hotel brands have settled in this project. It is estimated that the fully operational project will create 70,000 jobs and contribute about 22 billion rials to the national GDP.
