Snow Mountain Mansion, Lijiang is a reliable resort community based on the Four Seasons Hotel brand, with an area of 80,000 square meters.

The typical traditional architectural paradigm of Lijiang looks cheap and out of control because of the modern engineering technology, which is a common problem in almost every tourist city. Critical regionalism is often a reflection on the wave of internationalism, but it also applies to the invisible shackles of the region. Based on a stable regional matrix, there should be an individualized cultural expression.

In the initial drawing, a pure white building was placed above the wide eaves. The flying eaves at the bottom were the traditional symbol of Lijiang and the Snow Mountain was its spiritual totem. They gave an intuitive impression. Compared with the final construction, we still showed respect for the local culture. Furthermore, white, as a sensitive reflection of light and sky color, was widely used in many regions with the same light and climate conditions in the earth. From this perspective, white represented full attention to the local circumstances. From the perspective of phenomenology, white symbolized the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the distance and created a broader positional relationship.

Therefore, in terms of design, construction and materials, we used local red stones, five flowers stones and volcanic rocks to form the unique natural texture. Besides, we also used new materials to create a unique visual effect. Spatially, we tried to repeatedly establish a visual connection with the Snow Mountain. In the special context of materials and space, we hoped to create a wonderful linguistic connection with the region and the world.
