The glory of the past will become the nourishment of the future. Each generation will experience a significant change, and nature will evolve with time through the minor conversion. In the long run, new species will replace the old world. In this project, the designer uses the image of an acorn as its appearance and the idea of a seed to convey the originality of life; the fallen seed is a metaphor for the earth’s awakening, symbolizing hope and a better future to come. The project is the design of an installation art piece in Tainan, Taiwan. This southern city used to be the country’s capital and the most prosperous city of Taiwan a century ago. By offering the symbolic meaning of potential, patience, life, fertility, immortality, luck, prosperity, youth, and strength, the acorn resonates with the development and thriving of the local history and culture. Moreover, the entire art piece is made of stainless steel incorporated with ceramics, reflecting the blue sky and green land. On top of that, the designer uses ceramic pieces implanted in the steel, as if the land of Jianan Plain were concentrated in work. The ceramic is fired at a high temperature of 1200 degrees Celcius and embedded in the work, portraying the hardened seeds orchestrated with the humanistic sentiment. The installation art piece is positioned in a technology company, so the silver color of the steel material is used to create a futuristic vibe of technology. Additionally, the matte ceramic tiles are arranged to produce a sense of layering, disclosing the diversity of the artwork—different stages of processing shape the work itself. The designer creates a beautiful artwork shape through the computer's accurate and precise calculation. Besides, the ceramic pieces' shrinkage ratio is an essential reference. The steel is forged by hand, resulting in a highly technically challenging yet well-executed installation. During the pre-production era, the artwork was constructed with reusable earth, and the model was printed out with reusable materials with the help of 3D printing technology.
