DNALC-ASIA

This is a spatial communication system designed for DNALC-ASIA. As the only overseas branch of DNALC in the US and the largest genetic science education institution in the Asia Pacific region, the design team combined a meticulous and rigorous drawing style with a bold color scheme to make the genetic science laboratory less obscure and esoteric atmosphere and create a strong academic atmosphere.
The design is by no means a haphazard mix of elements, but a harmonious blend of cellular concepts and architecture through meticulous detailing. The motifs hung in the labs, named after different cell structures, have been expertly selected to fit the sub-themes of different labs and to harmonize with the furnishings, which serves as an aesthetic expression while communicating messages at the same time. Each laboratory can be seen as an individual, yet laboratories are linked to each other, and when combined, they present a visual representation of the whole, just like the union of countless cells in genetic science, which contains the infinite beauty of the future of life.
The spiral staircase shaped as a DNA model links the floors, which is a further expression of the fusion of genetic science and architecture. With different steps corresponding to closely linked bases, the staircase brings visual joy while expressing the rigor and variability of genetic science, which enrich the participants’ after-class life harmoniously with academics and reflects the endless search in the field of genetic science.
Additionally, the minimalist symbols based on genetic science are used as signage that is designed with a solid color scheme to maintain the atmosphere gently and eliminate the feeling of abruptness when participants enter and leave different functional areas.
