The project is about a low-cost landscape renovation, which needs to partially renovate the landscape of an old school with a limited cost to change its disadvantages, improve the campus integrity and landscape supporting facilities, and further enhance the functionality, ecology and cultural environment.

The project is located in Pudong, Shanghai, which is close to Majiazhai River. We need to transform some inferior landscapes while retaining the original basic features of the school. Therefore, in order not to destroy the original style, we adopt the way of "micro-transformation". According to the investigation of the site, targeted measures are taken for different functional zones. For instance, the deserted riverbank is ecologically transformed and a walking plank road is added. The runway around the teaching building is built to increase outdoor sports space for teachers and students. The original deserted lawn is reconstructed to be a square with many useful facilities to enhance the affinity and participation of the campus landscape.

The original design of the school landscape is kind of early-year model form, which is closed and of a single function. Therefore, according to the land use and spatial attributes of different areas, the designer can divide the areas, and at the same time, ensure the interactive effect, aiming at creating a flexible and immersive landscape experience. In addition, except adding some functional hard landscape, we mostly adopt soft landscape for the renovation to ensure that the original environment of the school will not be damaged too much, such as planting four-season plant belts on the basis of the retaining green trees to enhance the ornamental value of plants throughout the year; On the trails around the lake, ornamental trees are planted to enhance the campus characteristics; Rest seats are added in the atrium to create more outdoor rest and communication space for students.
